RE: ATF Now Claims Shouldering SigTac Brace is a Felony
Dear Senator ,
The BATFE has, again, violated the freedoms and civil rights of American gun owners. In January 2015 the ATF reversed its previous opinion on the legality of shoulder-firing pistols fitted with a “SigTac” or “Sig SB15” stabilizing arm brace.
The ATF now claims, as it previously did not, that shoulder-firing a rife or handgun caliber pistol fitted with one of the aforementioned braces is “illegal.” The ATF's full reversal of its prior opinion now asserts the “SigTac” pistol stabilizing brace is a NFA item and must be taxed and regulated by, of course, the ATF.
As an agency of the executive branch the ATF is not a law-making body and cannot, after so many of these braces and firearms fitted with these braces have been sold, randomly reverse itself making something once permissible a felony.
This move by the ATF is another example of how the majority of gun laws and regulations have nothing to do with public safety but are intentionally designed to get innocent Americans into serious criminal legal trouble with the US government.
Now thousands of Americans, unaware of the ATF's reversal on shouldering these pistol braces, will continue to shoulder their rifle caliber pistols making them subject to arrest, criminal prosecution, and at least ten years in prison.
How on earth can shouldering a pistol brace, previously determined to be “legal” by the ATF, turn a lawful gun owner into a felonious danger to society? For that matter, how is having a rifle with an “untaxed” 15 inch barrel, or shotgun with a 17 inch barrel, make one a danger to his community? How does firing a rifle at the full cyclic rate, vs semi-automatically, make one less legally liable for every bullet fired?
Again most gun laws, especially those dealing with the types of firearms we can own, are about government fear of a free people and have nothing to do with protecting the public or members of law enforcement.
Please force the ATF to repeal its outrageous, yet legally-binding, opinion on pistol arm braces, reduce the amount of red tape between American citizens and our Second Amendment (repeal gun laws), and legally place the ATF in a position of servitude to the American people.
